Why Resilience Coaching Beats Another Wellness Perk Every Single Time

Another wellness perk will not rescue a burned-out team.

A meditation app cannot clarify impossible priorities. A fruit bowl cannot repair mistrust. A Friday afternoon off cannot fix a manager who has no time to listen.

The problem is not that organizations lack wellness benefits. It is that many are trying to solve a relationship problem with a subscription.

The Gallup 2026 State of the Global Workplace report found that only 20% of employees were engaged globally in 2025, costing the world economy an estimated $10 trillion in lost productivity. Manager engagement fell to 22%, down nine points since 2022. Gallup also reports that managers experience daily stress at higher rates than individual contributors.

McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace 2025 research found that 60% of senior-level women frequently feel burned out, compared with 50% of senior-level men.

Resilience coaching addresses the conditions beneath burnout: workload, trust, communication, identity, and connection. That is where ROR: Return on Relationship: becomes the ultimate antidote.

Notice

Burnout rarely begins with a dramatic collapse. It starts with small signals leaders explain away.

  • Watch for withdrawal, irritability, missed deadlines, and emotional flatness.

  • Ask, “What is making this work harder than it needs to be?”

  • Track workload, role clarity, manager support, and psychological safety: not attendance alone.

  • Remember: Gallup finds employees who feel supported by their manager are about 70% less likely to experience regular burnout.

Repair

Resilience is not asking people to tolerate unhealthy systems more efficiently. It is rebuilding the relationships that make difficult work sustainable.

  • Name broken promises, unclear priorities, and unrealistic deadlines.

  • Replace performative listening with follow-through.

  • Renegotiate workload before exhaustion becomes a performance issue.

  • Use ROR to measure trust, recognition, transparency, and connection as operating assets.

Practice

Resilience grows through repetition: not one keynote, one perk, or one annual survey.

  • Hold short, consistent conversations about workload and wellbeing.

  • Give specific recognition before asking for more output.

  • Create room for autonomy, honest feedback, and difficult conversations.

  • Develop managers in self-awareness, relational transparency, recognition, balanced processing, and connection: the core principles of ROR: Return on Relationship.
